About this nanny job

Hi there! My name is Jonathan Quigg, I’m reaching out on behalf of Amanda! She is a 24-yr old high functioning autistic girl who lives with her service dog and cat in Littleton. I am her life coach of the past two years and her advocate. Right now shes on a waitlist to get govt. support at home and needs some help in the meantime with basic chores around the house, cleaning, doing dishes, laundry, grocery shopping, meal prep and perhaps a ride to an appointment here and there. Stuff that piles up and adds stress to her system. Amanda is brilliant and sooo full of love. And also has an auto-immune disorder called POTS, as well as PTSD. While shes generally highly independent (she trains muy thai in the morning like a boss) and so good with people when she has the capacity, right now shes really stressed and prone to regular shut downs, especially when new people come into her home. She had a hard time with a recent caregiver who didn’t have their shit together and were bringing stress into her home that Amanda was taking on, so she’s feeling hyper-vigilant and really needs someone who can really bring a calm, grounded presence to her to build trust. So, if you are open to helping, my hope is to chat with you first to make sure you’re a good fit for her, and then facilitate your first meeting together to help her feel comfortable and settle in. I’m thinking that the gig would at first be pretty low interaction with her, I’m encouraging her to stay in her room at first while you are over, so her system can start to trust a new person in her home. But I bet in a couple consistent weeks she’ll have some more trust and capacity to interact. Amanda can and does sometime shut down with new people around, so it’d have to be something you are willing to work with, and which I can prep you on. Realistically, though it may seem scary when she does go non-verbal, she will self-regulate on her own and it’s best to give her space and either finish chores or take off, rather than to crowd her or panic - which just makes it harder for her system to regulate. Many times before, 911 has been called and it’s more traumatizing for her than just coming back “online” on her own time. It’s a necessary part of this job, something you’d have to be comfortable with, and something I can coach you on. She might be extra sensitive at first, and the hope is that with consistent help getting her house in order, her system can start to settle down and be less prone to overwhelm.
